Alone In The Crowd

Do they see me?

Or are they blinded by what’s concerning only them

Do they hear me?

Or are they deafened by the noises of their own desires

Can they feel me?

Or are they desensitized by the “play and repeat” antics of the world

Can they taste my fear?

Or are they full on their own greed

Will they be there when I’m crying because I’m confused by what has control of me?

Or are their shoulders not built for the likes of me

Will they have empathy when my actions don’t warrant it?

Or are they so caught up in their own feelings they’ve forgotten their dirty deeds

I’m standing in the midst of the crowd

Yet invisible by those who stand beside me

Screaming for help to rid myself of the emptiness I feel

WHY AM I THE FAMILY SECRET?

Longing to love and to be loved unconditionally

Wanting to be wanted

Needing to be needed

But the symptoms of my conditions alienate me

Alienate Me

Because my outward appearance is viewed as the elephant in the room

Alienate Me

Because my outbursts are like a time bomb without a timer

Alienate Me

Because the authentic me will expose the facade built by those who whisper “I love you”

    1. Thank you so much son! Oftentimes we have situations or people within our family struggling with a mental illness. Unfortunately it is treated like it doesn’t exist until it’s too late

  2. This expresses every person’s inner thoughts and reflections of their life openly and silently. For we are travellers in this world, and will endure life’s circumstances. It is up to us to recognize and receive God’s help to continue functioning in this world. He values each of us.

  3. Wow! Very powerful and much needed in the days we are living in. A word for each of us to look at ourselves and in our own closets.

  4. Extremely Powerful and Full of Truth! This piece speak VOLUMES to the life many live through every day and the sad part is many are too ashamed to discuss it much less admit it. I love the way you was able to express this on paper because it definitely bring you to a place of discovery. Thanks for sharing this was very impactful!!!

  5. I definitely resonate with this piece. I felt that way for a very long time, and it is only now that I realize that I am not alone. These are important conversations to have because when you are alone in your suffering, agonizing over what people think about you, how they feel about you or can they see me or my pain…it is lonely and scary. I pray you continue to allow God to use you to break down barriers and open up our wounds to heal and move on. Great job, Z!
