Numb to Being Numb

I could feel until I could not feel anymore

Feel the pain of the families of loved ones who prematurely snatched by reckless desire and hate

Feel the heart of the people who fought for justice to only see it undermine by those who wear ignorance as a badge of honor.

I could see until I was blind

Blinded by the gimmicks and bait switch of the puppet masters who paint a picture of fast money millionaires.

Blinded by the ideology that I’m a failure because I’m not trending, Insta famous or better yet a TikTok master.

I could hear until I was deaf

Deaf to cries of mothers who sons are preyed upon by hunters who are stockpiling them for free labor

Deaf to excuses on repeat for the justification of systemic racism

I ate until I was no longer hungry

Hungry for a house and white picket fence in a melting pot community

Hungry to live in a society where the melanin in my skin doesn’t calculate me as 3/4 human but as 100% and my mere existence is an needed ingredient to make the bread rise.

I could touch until I was numb

Numb to intolerance of the tolerance of gentrification to the segment of people who need us to be our brother and sister keeper

  4. Loved it! This definitely makes you think about what we see and feel, and how easy it is to become disconnected when dealing with life’s trials, tribulations and even successes. There is a protective component to being numb and not feeling everything, but there is also a negative component to being numb. When you are disconnected, you know longer allow yourself to be vulnerable. In my opinion, vulnerability takes much more strength because you open yourself up to the possibility of better and bitter. Great job….my wheels are turning.
