A Mother’s Cry

I can’t unhear the cries of a mother whose child’s life was snuffed out by an organized evil.

I can’t unsee the constant replay of the last minutes of the life of someone who I didn’t personally know yet they have become my son or daughter

My heart grieves these indescribable atrocities as another mother’s son or daughter become a trending hashtag or a graphic on a R.I.P t-shirt.

I’m frantically searching every inch of my brain for understanding of THE WHY!

The WHY of why our melanin babies are being hunted in the streets like wild game!

The WHY of why black on black crime is a daily chess game with only dead kings and queens!

The WHY of why our nation’s mantra is “Snitches Get Stitches “ or “Snitches End Up In Ditches !“

I keep hearing Big Brother is always watching but who is watching Big Brother?

There’s no JUSTICE in the brutality of beating the soul out of another.

There’s no JUSTIFICATION in releasing lethal projectiles the size of lipstick that provides a passage way for a blood bath.

I keep hearing the cries of mothers of black and brown children whose cries now holds the atmosphere hostage.

They are now members of the fastest growing sorority that no mother willingly pledges yet the induction process is swift and painful.

I can’t unhear the screams of the sons and daughters in their final moments scream MAMA 💔

  1. After all the attention the Black Lives Matter-led racial justice movement generated after George Floyd’s death in 2020, the number of Black people killed by police has actually increased over the last two years. It’s just insane. My heart bleeds for these mothers 😢

Thank you Vision Fyah for highlighting this timely piece 🙏🏽

  2. The sad reality in today’s world seems to be a trend. A trend that no parent want their child to take part in. There’s no way to explain but there is a way to describe it and the words are hate, racism, injustice, jealousy, to name a few. As parents, we must continue to pray for each other and to NOT become a part of a sorority that we didn’t ask to be in…so sad and heartbreaking for a mother.💔

  4. Beautifully written! It troubles me that so many people seem oblivious to what is happening. Thank you for using this platform to bring awareness to relative matters. My question is what can I do to make a positive difference.

  5. Zee,
Thank you for putting into words, the pain that engulfs me when I hear about another child of God’s SENSELESSLY struck down. Similarly, to a pebble tossed into a calm lake, the regrettable actions of one ripples painfully out to the lives of many.
    Thank you for sharing.

  6. The pain is unimaginable for most of us, but real for a LOT of us! This piece beautifully describes the quandary that we are living and thinking…why? I’ll continue to pray for a WORLD of peace, self love and empathy. Imagine a world where we loved ourselves so much that we could not possibly kill someone else just because we can.

  7. Baby sis this is another powerful that hits to the soul of all parents, siblings and spouses. Everyday we are faced with the senseless loss of a loved one due to violence. Our youth have lost hope in the future and respect for life and both the hunter and the hunted. The question is how do we reverse this tragic nightmare we are seeing???
